A winch can drain a vehicle’s battery if the owner isn’t prepared. To make sure everything runs smoothly, know how many amps the winch uses and how much the vehicle’s battery can handle. Make sure the battery is fully charged, and possibly get a second battery to help power the winch.
When it comes to a winch, higher winch capacity is always better! The heavier the vehicle, the more powerful winch you’ll need. Your winch should be able to pull at least 1.5 times the weight of your vehicle. You can calculate it by taking the gross vehicle weight and multiply it by 1.5.
A winch does not really “care” if it is mounted upside down as this will have no bearing on its load capacity. You will, however, need to be certain that the attached winch cable or strap does not hang down and create a hazard
